post-modernism
Previously modernism had approached everything with objectivity. Post modernism defied this by stating this objectivity is a social construct and can therefore change. First developing in architecture the movement then spread to the other arts. Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault both studied human behavior with a post-modernistic approach. The 80's were a showcase of post-modernism culture with magazines like ID and debuting and breaking the rules for future publications.

Damien Hirst is an artist that could be considered post-modernist as he defies how we percieve things and distorts them to make us reflect on the meaning of life and death. By using alternative mediums Hirst makes us question everything we have been taught to recognize and define as 'art'.
